Food pantries across Davidson County expect a surge in visitors following the temporary suspension of SNAP benefits caused by the ongoing federal government shutdown.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services confirmed that Community Services Block Grant (CSBG)–funded activities and SNAP operations are paused until Congress passes a federal appropriations act or continuing resolution.

The shutdown has left thousands of North Carolinians uncertain about when their next round of benefits will resume. In Davidson County, organizations supported by Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina are stepping up to meet the growing need.
