From the Desk of State Senator Steve Jarvis: Coming Together For Healthy Communitie

The NC Institute of Medicine (NCIOM) was formed 40 years ago at the NC General Assembly's mandate to create strong health policies for our citizens. NCIOM is an independent organization focused on improving the health and well-being of North Carolinians by providing analysis on the health and well-being of North Carolinians, identifying solutions to the health issues facing our state, building consensus toward evidence-based solutions, and informing health policy at the state and local level. This year's policy meeting focused on a mid-decade update on the status of the work to achieve the goals of Healthy North Carolina 2030. Attendees learned from and connected with health leaders, policymakers, and community partners from across the state in order to:

• Reflect on progress

• Share innovative strategies

• Identify persistent challenges

• Chart a course toward improved health outcomes for all North Carolinians.

It’s about how all of us work together to make opportunity accessible and sustainable. Whether it’s a foster child finding a permanent home, a family rebuilding after a storm, or a young person learning a trade, those are the moments where good policy meets real life."
