Good Times Never Get Old: Davidson County seniors celebrate with food, fun and music

Davidson County is turning up the volume this May to honor its older residents during Older Americans Month 2025. The county is embracing the national theme, “Flip the Script on Aging,” aiming to challenge outdated stereotypes and celebrate the vitality and contributions of older adults .

A Month of Celebration and Connection

The Davidson County Board of Commissioners officially proclaimed May as Older Americans Month, emphasizing the importance of meaningful interactions and social connections for the well-being of older adults . In line with this, Davidson County Senior Services is hosting a series of events to engage and honor the senior community.

Spotlight Event: May 28 at Pace Park

The highlight of the month is set for Wednesday, May 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Hunter Family Amphitheater in Pace Park, Thomasville. This free event for residents aged 55 and older will feature live music by Davis Tucker, games, door prizes, and a complimentary bag lunch. Registration is required by May 22 interested participants can call 336-242-2290 to sign up.

Diverse Activities Throughout May

Beyond the main event, Senior Services has curated a variety of programs to promote active aging and community engagement. These include:

  • Fitness and Wellness: Chair yoga sessions and line dancing classes to keep the body moving.

  • Creative Workshops: Needle felting and button art classes for those looking to explore their artistic side.

  • Educational Seminars: Discussions on emotional wellness and decluttering to support mental health and well-being.

  • Technology Classes: Workshops on digital tools for brain health and genealogy to help seniors stay connected and informed.

  • Caregiver Support: A resource fair providing information and assistance to those caring for older adults .

Embracing a New Narrative on Aging

The “Flip the Script on Aging” theme encourages communities to view aging as a period of opportunity and growth. Davidson County's initiatives reflect this perspective, offering programs that empower older adults to remain active, engaged, and connected .
