MLK Social Action Committee to Host 23rd Annual Memorial Peace Conference in Thomasville

THOMASVILLE — The Martin Luther King Social Action Committee (MLK-SAC) will host its 23rd annual MLK Memorial Peace Conference on Saturday, April 4, marking the 58th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination.

The event will take place at 3 p.m. at Citadel of Faith Christian Fellowship, located at 108 Salem Street in Thomasville.

Organizers say the annual conference continues Dr. King’s legacy by addressing what he described as the “three evils of society” — racism, poverty and militarism — themes that remain central to the program.

Graduate students from United Cornerstone University will lead discussions on each topic. Scheduled speakers include Elder Rickey White on racism, Apostle Chasiti Simpson on poverty and Bishop John Bailey II on militarism.

In addition to the keynote discussions, the program will feature student voices from the next generation. The top winners of the 2026 MLK Oratorical Contest will deliver speeches as part of the observance. This year’s first-place winner is Tristian Muhammad, followed by second-place winner Alexa Ruiz.

The MLK-SAC has hosted the conference for more than two decades as a way to bring the community together in reflection, education and action. The annual gathering emphasizes not only remembrance of Dr. King’s life and work, but also continued dialogue around social justice issues impacting communities today.
