The NFL didn’t end for The Chair City. The City of Thomasville is recognizing NFL linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaither during Black History Month, honoring the hometown native for his professional accomplishments and the example he sets for young people in the community.
Born and raised in Thomasville, Davis-Gaither it is said that he first gained attention as a standout athlete at Thomasville High School before continuing his academic and athletic career at Appalachian State University. At Appalachian State, he developed into one of the Sun Belt Conference’s top defensive players, earning all-conference honors and establishing himself as an NFL prospect.
In 2020, Davis-Gaither was selected in the fourth round of the NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals, achieving a goal he had worked toward since childhood. Following his selection, he expressed eagerness about the opportunity ahead.
“I’m ready to get suited up,” Davis-Gaither said during his introductory news conference with the Bengals.
Reflecting on his preparation and confidence entering the league, he added, “I know I can play at this level based off the season I was having last year … The Senior Bowl just increased that confidence with me having a standout week and playing a new position.”
After several seasons in Cincinnati, Davis-Gaither now continues his professional career with the Arizona Cardinals. Throughout his journey from Thomasville to the NFL, he has remained a source of pride for The Bulldog Nation.
