Lexington daycare center announces closing

Coggins Child Development Center on South Main Street in Lexington publicly announced on February 19, 2024 that it will be closing its doors in a few weeks. 

The successful child care center which has been operational for over thirty years will officially close on March 01, 2024 leaving numerous parents scrounging for daycare.

Many parents felt blindsided by the decision made by the owners of the child development center, Coggins Memorial Baptist Church. 

The information was officially announced through a letter sent home with daycare attendees which was issued on official Coggins Church Child Development letterhead and signed by the congregation of the church.

The letter states that unforeseen circumstances in addition to the lack of available infrastructure as contributing factors to the closing of the child development center. In addition, the letter further identifies operational challenges of which cannot be recovered. 

The child development center was noted for often achieving a 5-Star rating with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
