Invictus Task Force Searches for Violations During Davidson County Sex Offender Compliance Operation

Davidson County, NC — On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, Detectives with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Invictus Task Force conducted a large-scale address verification and compliance operation focused on registered sex offenders.

This initiative supports the ongoing commitment by the Sheriff’s Office to public safety, recognizing that individuals who are convicted of sex-related offenses are considered at a higher risk of re-offending. The North Carolina General Assembly recognized that sex offenders often pose a high risk if engaging in sex offenses even after being released from incarceration or commitment and that protection of the public from sex offenders is of paramount governmental interest.

The General Assembly also recognized that person who commit certain other types of offenses against minors, such as kidnapping, pose significant and unacceptable threats to the public safety and welfare of the children on the State of North Carolina, and protection of those children is of great Governmental interest.

Starting in 1995, North Carolina requires any person who is a convicted sex offender who lives within the agency’s jurisdiction, to registered with the Sheriff. The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for managing this registry, which includes registering offenders, maintaining up-to-date information, and investigating any potential violations. Currently, there are 538 registered sex offenders under the Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction in Davidson County. This information can be found at the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry at sexoffender.ncsbi.gov.

As part of the Sex Offender Registry Compliance Operation, Detectives conducted in-person checks on 320 registered sex offenders to verify the accuracy of their residential and other required information in accordance with North Carolina law. Detectives discovered twelve violations of the registry by registered sex offenders during this operation. Detectives are continuing to investigate the twelve found in violation and criminal charges will be forthcoming.

A registered sex offender on the registry has three business days to report in person and provide written notice of their new address to the Sheriff, when relocating in their current county. If the registered sex offender moves to another county, they shall report in person to the Sheriff of the new county and register within ten days after the address change. Failure to comply with North Carolina Article 27A is a Class F Felony criminal charge in this State. If you have any information of a registered sex offender violating registry laws, please call the Sex Offender Registry Unit at 336-242-2136.
