MLK Social Action Committee Announces 2026 Observance Events in Thomasville

The Martin Luther King Social Action Committee Inc. has announced its lineup of 2026 Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday events, featuring a week of worship, music, youth engagement, arts, and community celebration in Thomasville. This year’s theme is “Look Where He Brought Us From.”

The observance begins midweek with the Beloved Community Revival, scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 14–15, at Citadel of Faith Christian Fellowship, 108 Salem St. Services begin at 7 p.m. each evening. Guest speakers include Pastor Rashad Fant of Emmanuel Baptist Church on Wednesday and Pastor Thelma Gordon of St. John AME Zion Church on Thursday.

On Friday, Jan. 16, the celebration continues with the MLK Freedom Concert and Revival, also at Citadel of Faith Christian Fellowship at 7 p.m. The evening will feature music and a message from Pastor Brandon Austin of Union Baptist Church.

Youth voices take center stage on Saturday, Jan. 17, during the MLK Oratorical Contest and Beloved Community Awards at Bethel Global Methodist Life Center, 508 Fisher Ferry St. A reception will begin at 5 p.m., followed by the contest at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students.

The annual MLK Arts Festival will be held on Sunday, Jan. 18, at T. Austin Finch Auditorium, 410 Unity St., beginning at 4 p.m. Tickets are $5, and the program will feature a performance by the NC A&T E. Gwynn Dancers.

Events conclude on Monday, Jan. 19, with two community gatherings. The Beloved Community Prayer Breakfast will take place at Citadel of Faith Christian Fellowship, with breakfast at 9 a.m. followed by a worship service at 10:30 a.m. The guest speaker will be Bishop Dr. Dee Stokes.

Later that evening, the MLK National Holiday Service will be held at First Missionary Baptist Church, 103 Church St., at 7 p.m. The preacher for the service will be Apostle Michael Marshall of The Love Cathedral in Thomasville.
