Press Release: YMCA to launch youth summer food program, Lexington
The J. Smith Young YMCA is proud to announce the launch of its expanded Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) for 2025. Beginning Monday, June 6th and continuing through August 8th, this initiative aims to provide free, nutritious meals to children aged 18 and under across rural communities in Lexington, NC. Children will receive a bag of food for lunch that must be consumed on site. The bags adhere to USDA guidelines and contain the five components of a balanced meal including fruit, vegetables, whole grains, a meat/meat alternative, and milk. In 2024, the YMCA distributed over 50,000 meals to children in our
community.
Distribution Sites and Schedule:
● Mondays (6/2/25 - 8/4/25)
○ Pleasant Village from 11am-Noon
○ Club Apartments from 12:05-1:05 p.m.
● Wednesdays (6/4/25 - 8/6/25)
○ Helen Caple Apartments from 11-Noon
○ Jamaica Drive from 12:05-1:05 p.m
● Fridays (6/6-8/8)
○ Jackson Square Apartments from 11-Noon
