Denton's former fire chief has been arrested and charged with fraud
Denton's former fire chief has been arrested and charged with fraud for allegedly falsifying training and certification records, according to the North Carolina Insurance Commission.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced on Wednesday the arrest of the Brandon Allen Dorsett, 37, of Denton.
The former Denton fire chief was charged with misusing government computers and two counts of fraud, all felonies.
Davidson County deputies arrested Dorsett on July 11. He was released on $10,000 unsecured bond. He is scheduled to appear in Davidson County District Court on Aug. 4
Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Dorsett of using the town’s computers to falsely report the Denton Fire Department’s training records and certified rosters. The two fraud charges relate to falsifying the rosters and training records.
The offenses occurred between March 1, 2021, and July 10, 2025, according to the NC Insurance Commission.
“I thank our special agents for the hard work they put into this case,” Commissioner Causey said. “While I understand that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty, firefighters and members of the town need to know that the fire department’s actions are above board. Firefighters are dedicated public servants and sacrifice a lot to protect their community.”
