Political Opinion: From Sen. Jarvis' Desk - September 8, 2023

Dear Friends,

Labor Day has come and gone. Hopefully, you were able to take a bit of time off to do something with people you care about.

It's hard to believe that another September 11th is soon upon us. While 22 years have passed, we keep in mind those Americans who lost their lives on that tragic day.

This week in the NCGA, just like many of you, we are still waiting on the final word about the budget. I anticipate a voting session soon, and I am looking forward to wrapping up this long session. There is still ongoing legislation crafting for items we hope to revisit during the short session.

Spectrum Networks invited me to film a "Know Your Electeds" interview earlier this summer. The video clip is shown below. You might learn something new about me and why I serve the public!

Lexington has sworn in it's newest City Manager. I would like to offer a big "Welcome" to Mr. Johnnie Taylor. We are so excited to work with you and I am looking forward to accomplishing many tasks together to make Lexington an even better place to live, work or go to school.

Our area is being recognized by a national publication, Travel + Leisure magazine, in its Fall spread which entices readers to visit many wonderful places around America. Lexington has earned a place in this seasonally anticipated article. Read below about why our town was included!

The first Davie FarmFest is happening this weekend! I hope you are able to attend this event and show your support for the vital work the farmers in our area do to feed the country.

The Denton Civitan Club is hosting interest meetings on several evenings this month. The Civitan Club was formed to help individuals with disabilities in local communities. Club members do so many good deeds for folks in Davie and Davidson Counties. Please come see how you can help!

Davidson County Social Services has job openings if you are looking to make a career switch or potentially move up the ladder in the same field. Check out the event on September 14th to meet recruiters in person and promote yourself on the job market.

I had the pleasure of calling Oak Grove High School this week to notify them about winning a GO Grant award. The school will receive money to enhance its agricultural education programs. Great job, Grizzlies!

In our Discovering the District section, we are featuring the beautiful architecture of two homes in Mocksville. These homes can be viewed as part of the walking tour in the area. It looks like a great weekend to try it!

If you have concerns, or questions, you can reply to this newsletter, email, or call my office at

(919) 733-5743.

I also take time each day to personally call citizens in our district to listen to their concerns. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you!
