Press Release: LCS welcomes Ms. Leigh Jones as new Chief Academic Officer
Lexington City Schools is delighted to announce the appointment of Ms. Leigh Jones as our new Chief Academic Officer. With an exceptional blend of academic and athletic experience at all levels of public education, Ms. Jones is the ideal leader to help shape the future of education within our district.
Ms. Jones brings a wealth of diverse experience to her role. She is an alumna of Appalachian State University's women's basketball program and has previously served as an assistant coach for the Mountaineers. Her impressive 24-year career in public education includes the following roles:
High School Physical Education Teacher in Ashe County Schools
Elementary Physical Education Teacher in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools
Middle School Assistant Principal in Alamance-Burlington School System
Middle School Principal in Asheboro City Schools
High School Principal in Rockingham County Schools, where she was recognized as the 2013 Wells Fargo Region 5 Principal of the Year
Ms. Jones transitioned into district leadership, serving as Secondary Chief Academic Officer in Rockingham County Schools, and later, in various roles within Guilford County Schools, including:
Executive Director of Secondary Curriculum
Secondary Principal Supervisor
Senior Director of Athletics
In her new role as Chief Academic Officer, Ms. Jones will oversee several vital departments within our district, ensuring seamless coordination and advancement of our educational mission. She will supervise:
