Press Release: Southwest Elementary Recognized for Exceptional Support of Military Students and Families for the Third Consecutive Year
Southwest Elementary Global Academy has been recognized with the Purple Star Award by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) for the third consecutive year, highlighting its ongoing commitment to supporting military students and their families. The Purple Star designation is awarded to schools that demonstrate military-friendly practices and provide critical resources to support military-connected students.
"We are incredibly proud to receive the Purple Star Award for the third consecutive year. This recognition underscores our dedication to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for our military families," said Dr. Nakia Hardy, Superintendent of Lexington City Schools. "We remain committed to ensuring that every student, including those connected to the military, receives the support they need to thrive."
The Purple Star Award program was established in the 2019-20 school year to recognize schools that provide exceptional support to military students and families. This year, 453 schools across North Carolina, including Southwest Elementary, received the award. Schools earning the Purple Star Award completed several activities, including the designation of a staff member as a point of contact for military families and the implementation of a transition program for military-connected students.
