The Rhythm of Community: An Evening of Jazz Returns Friday, Aug. 7

An Evening of Jazz returns to Uptown Lexington on Friday, Aug. 7, bringing together acclaimed local musicians and supporters of the arts for an evening of live music, food, fellowship and community. Tickets are $40 and also include food.

Presented by the Ebony Community Collective in partnership with Arts Davidson County, the event reflects a shared commitment to expanding access to the arts and creating meaningful cultural experiences throughout Davidson County. The evening will feature award-winning Lexington native DaiTrell, Nick Hayes and The Cufflinx while raising funds to support future arts and cultural programming.

For Patsy Matthews, president of the Ebony Community Collective, the event represents the continuation of a vision she and her husband, Zane, helped establish years ago by bringing jazz performances to Uptown Lexington. Organizers describe jazz as a common language, bringing people together across generations while creating opportunities for artists and audiences to connect. Through the Ebony Community Collective's partnership with Arts Davidson County, that vision continues to grow by expanding access to the arts while celebrating creativity, culture and community. Together, the organizations are creating opportunities for residents and visitors alike to experience live music while strengthening Davidson County's vibrant arts community. Vast partnerships have been developed through the process.

The evening begins with a VIP Reception at 5:30 p.m. for Platinum and Gold sponsors, offering guests an opportunity to gather before the performance, enjoy refreshments and learn more about the work of Arts Davidson County and the Ebony Community Collective. General admission doors open at 6 p.m., welcoming guests to an evening that combines exceptional music, a delicious menu, meaningful conversation and community fellowship.

Guests will enjoy performances by award-winning Lexington native DaiTrell, Nick Hayes and The Cufflinx while experiencing an evening designed to celebrate the arts, strengthen community connections and support future cultural programming throughout Davidson County.

Lexington native DaiTrell will open the evening, continuing his commitment to the community that has supported him throughout his career. Known for his honest lyrics, engaging performances and genuine connection with audiences, he has taken his music to stages across the country, including the House of Blues in Houston, while remaining an active supporter of Arts Davidson County and the local arts community.

"After moving away for seven years on this journey, being back home feels like coming full circle," DaiTrell said. "This is where my journey began, and I'm grateful to share this moment with my family, friends and the community that supports and nourishes the arts."

Featured guests Nick Hayes and The Cufflinx will bring expressive interpretations, contemporary jazz arrangements and exceptional musicianship.

Organizers say that an Evening of Jazz offers something that extends beyond the stage. It is an opportunity to celebrate local talent, strengthen community connections and invest in a future where arts and culture continue to flourish throughout Davidson County.
