Thomasville Police make arrest for March homicide

Thomasville Police Department detectives have made an arrest in connection with the homicide that occurred on March 23, on Hunter Street.

On Thursday, April 11, 2024, TPD detectives, with the assistance of the High Point Police Department, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 2600 block of Northfork Terrace, High Point. Officers arrested Melvin Lee Brown, 40, of Northfork Terrace. Brown is charged with possession of a firearm by convicted felon and possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine. Brown received a $15,000 secured bond for possession of a firearm and a $5000 secured bond for possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine. Brown was placed in the Davidson County Jail where he has since posted bond and been released. Brown was convicted of being a habitual felon in 2008, felony possession of cocaine in 2008, felony possession of cocaine in 2006, felony possession of cocaine in 2004.

On Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 5:58 p.m., officers responded to Hunter Street after receiving multiple calls reporting a shooting. Officers located a deceased victim in the 40 block of Hunter Street. Three other victims suffering gunshot wounds arrived at Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center a short time later. They were later transported to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital.

Bobby Brown, 35, of Greensboro, died at the scene. Khiry Bowman, 31, Blake McDonald, 38, and James Thompson, 27, all of Thomasville, sustained gunshot wounds. All have since been treated and released.

TPD detectives identified Melvin Brown as a party to the disturbance that led to the shooting on March 23. Evidence gathered at the scene revealed the deceased victim, Bobby Brown, initiated the shooting toward a group of men in the roadway with a firearm that was originally in the possession of Melvin Brown. Bobby Brown was struck and killed by gunfire returned by others present at the scene.
