The Walk for Peace began Oct. 26, 2025, in Fort Worth, Texas, and will conclude in Washington, D.C., spanning an estimated 120 days. The walk is led by Bhikkhu Pannakara and includes 19 Buddhist monks, accompanied by a rescue dog named Aloka. The journey is not a protest but an intentional act meant to raise awareness about peace, loving-kindness and compassion.

As the monks travel through towns and cities, they are supported by a small logistics team that provides food and water. The monks will also accept goodwill offerings from the public, including food, water, prayers, flowers and lodging during rest or overnight stops. Across the South, communities have gathered along the route to welcome the monks, walk alongside them and take part in moments of reflection and prayer.

The Lexington Cambodian Community Center has announced plans to welcome the monks locally and is inviting the public to attend once details are finalized.

“Let us unite as a community in this meaningful walk, embracing the shared hope for peace in our hearts and in the world,” the center shared in a recent announcement.

The visit will take place at:

Lexington Cambodian Community Center
235 Cambodian Culture Center Ln.
Lexington, NC 27292

Live updates on the monks’ progress are shared regularly on the Walk for Peace Facebook page, where photos, videos and route information are posted as the group continues northward.
