The meeting will be held at the Lexington City Schools Administrative Offices, 1010 Fair Street. Board members will enter closed session at 5:30 p.m., followed by an open session beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Dr. Nakia Hardy

The leadership changes follow the announcement that Superintendent Dr. Nakia Hardy has accepted the position of superintendent with Franklin County Schools. Dr. Hardy joined Lexington City Schools in July 2023 and served the district through a period of continued transition.

According to the agenda, the board will enter closed session under multiple provisions of North Carolina General Statute 143-318.11 to discuss personnel matters, attorney-client privilege, and confidential information protected under state and federal law. The board will return to open session for the remainder of the meeting.

During the superintendent portion of the agenda, the board is expected to hear from Dr. Hardy.

The agenda also includes recognition of National School Board Recognition Month, along with district highlights under “Spotlight on People and Programs,” including the “Be Somebody” initiative and EVAAS recognitions.

Under the consent agenda, board members will consider overnight field trip requests, student placements, and an item labeled “pension spiking,” along with approval of the consent agenda.

The meeting will include time for citizens to address the board of education.

Later agenda items include a financial report and formal budget packet, an audit update, and discussion items related to Schneider Electric and board committee reports. The agenda also lists an item related to an NCSBA superintendent search, signaling the start of the formal process to identify a permanent superintendent.

Personnel recommendations are scheduled before the board returns to closed session and adjourns.

The meeting is open to the public, with the exception of closed session portions permitted under state law.
