Press Release: LPD responds to shooting on Pine Street, Shelter in Place removed
The LPD Special Response Team was deployed to the scene and implemented tactical resources. The suspect continued to fire shots while officers were in the area. During the incident, officers determined that the suspect was not shooting actively at anyone, therefore there was not an active shooter response by law enforcement. Investigators also have no reason to believe that anyone was directly targeted during the shooting. There were no injuries as a result of the shots fired in the area.
The suspect willingly surrendered, exited the home without the weapon in his possession, and was safely taken into custody at 5:52 p.m. No injuries were sustained by officers or the suspect during the apprehension process. LPD is actively processing the scene. The suspect was identified as a sixteen-year-old male. There is no active threat to the public at this time.
A 12-year-old who lived in the residence sustained minor injuries while the suspect was still in the house, and prior to LPD apprehending the suspect. The 12-year-old is being treated for at Lexington Medical Center. This is an ongoing investigation as LPD continues to process the scene.
LPD would like to thank the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and Davidson County EMS for their assistance on the scene.
