Alderwood of Davidson County Unveils New Water Feature at Hinkle Hospice House to Offer Peace, Healing, and Hope
New outdoor sanctuary in memory of beloved long-time Thomasville pharmacist Joe Greeson
LEXINGTON, N.C. (October 8, 2026) — Alderwood of Davidson County, formerly Hospice of Davidson County, unveiled a new outdoor water feature Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the Hinkle Hospice House campus, creating a dedicated sanctuary space designed to bring comfort, reflection, and quiet solace to patients, families, caregivers, community members and staff for years to come.
Centered around the calming sight and gentle sound of flowing water, the new naturescape was designed with a focus on holistic healing environments. The space will offer a peaceful retreat for families navigating difficult moments on the hospice campus.
“Our hope for this space is centered on what it will provide for others moving forward,” said Amy Greeson, Greeson’s daughter. “May the sound of flowing water bring moments of peace, healing, and hope for generations to come.”
The feature was dedicated in memory of Joe David Greeson, a longtime Thomasville pharmacist and respected community leader who passed away earlier this year at Hinkle Hospice House. Greeson served for decades at The Medicine Shoppe (later Thomasville Pharmacy) and held leadership roles across numerous civic organizations, including serving on the Board of Directors for Hospice of Davidson County (now Alderwood).
An avid outdoor enthusiast, lifelong student, and white-water kayaker who found lifelong inspiration in nature, Greeson’s legacy of attentive care for others continues through the living sanctuary space.
During the afternoon ceremony, Amy Greeson shared reflections on her father’s love for nature and community service, followed by a formal blessing led by Alderwood Chaplain James Clapper and a dedication moment with his wife, Mrs. Barbara Greeson.
The beautiful water feature, designed by Alan and Sherry Koontz of Carolina Pondscapes, and Carolina Enhancements is now permanently open on the grounds of the Alderwood Hinkle Hospice House, serving as a lasting space of comfort for patients and their loved ones, as well as a place of quiet reflection for hospice caregivers.
