John Hood to Keynote at Friends of the Library Annual Meeting
The Friends of the Lexington Library invite the public to their Annual Meeting this Sunday, November 9, from 2:00–3:30 p.m. at the Lexington Library Annex, 602 S. Main Street.
Guests are encouraged to bring friends and family for an afternoon of fellowship, food, and thought-provoking discussion with special guest John Hood — a respected conservative columnist, author, and public policy expert.
Hood received his BA in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he serves as vice chair of the board of North Carolina Public Radio (WUNC) and a member of the foundation board of the Hussman School of Journalism and Media. He earned a MA in liberal studies and a graduate certificate in nonprofit management from UNC-Greensboro.
Well known for his conservative stance, Hood serves as president of the John William Pope Foundation and sits on the board of the John Locke Foundation. A longtime journalist and broadcaster, he teaches at Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy. His commentary has appeared in major outlets including The Wall Street Journal, and his syndicated column on North Carolina politics and public policy has run continuously since 1986 in more than 50 newspapers across the state.
He is also the author of seven nonfiction works and three historical-fantasy novels — Mountain Folk, Forest Folk, and Water Folk — which blend early American history with imaginative storytelling.
While some have questioned the choice Hood isn’t afraid to speak on political issues. He previously told the Carolina Journal, “Your audience ought to learn something new from you even if they never agree with you. They should encounter a new fact, see the results of a new study, or read a quote they might otherwise miss.” It’s a philosophy that mirrors his decades-long career in journalism and public commentary.
During the event, attendees can renew their Friends of the Library membership or join as new members. The annual gathering is a longtime tradition for the Friends of the Library, offering members a chance to reconnect, learn, and celebrate community and ideas.
