Breaking News: Lexington Police Department makes arrest after shooting

The Lexington Police Department (LPD) responded to multiple calls received at 1:45 p.m. today in reference to two males actively shooting at each other on Mendota Avenue near Camden Circle.

While arriving on the scene, an LPD officer saw one of the suspects fleeing the area on a dirt bike.

Officers were able to locate the dirt bike abandoned at a residence on Parker Street, approximately half a mile away from the scene. Deante Lamont Banks, age 32 of Salisbury, was identified as a suspect and detained at the Parker Street residence.

Officers and detectives then processed and interviewed people at the Parker Street location. They also located cocaine, marijuana and a 9mm handgun suspected to be used by Banks in the shooting. Officers and detectives located and seized multiple 9mm shell casings and projectiles at the scene on Mendota Avenue. Investigators have not located or identified any other suspects or victims at this time.

This has been classified as an isolated incident and not a random act of violence. There is no continued threat to the public. Several witnesses have been interviewed and this remains and ongoing investigation lead by LPD detectives.

Lamont Banks has been arrested and charged with the following: Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, discharging a firearm in the city, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia.

Banks has received a $25,000 secured bond and will appear in court on May 28, 2024 at Lexington District Court.

A dangerous individual and gun has been taken off of the streets due to the quick response, apprehension, and investigation into this incident by LPD officers.
