A functioning republic—one where the rights and liberties of individuals are protected—depends on an educated and engaged citizenry. Few institutions provide the tools to foster such learning and community participation as effectively as our public libraries.

In an age overwhelmed by digital media and flooded with fleeting, hollow content, public libraries remain among the last truly accessible spaces where deep, meaningful knowledge and community engagement are both free and open to all. Here in Davidson County, our public libraries are more than tranquil rooms filled with books, they are vibrant social anchors that promote lifelong learning and engagement for all ages.

From early childhood programs to skill-building workshops, they provide resources that empower individuals to grow intellectually, professionally, and socially. Our five libraries offer a wide range of activities and programs, including games, author and speaker events, and cooking and sewing classes—just to name a few. Additionally, their extensive collections of books, newspapers, and databases ensure that people from all walks of life have access to the information they need.

In an increasingly divided world, public libraries stand as living symbols of our founding values that united us: equal access to information, freedom of inquiry, and the liberty to navigate a spectrum of ideas without coercive indoctrination. They are not relics of the past, but cornerstones of our future.

As one of your County Commissioners, I will continue to champion our libraries. I also encourage you to visit one of our Davidson County library locations and sign-up for your free library card:
