Davidson County purchasing director recognized

At Tuesday evening’s Davidson County Commissioners meeting, county purchasing director Dwayne Childress was recognized for his recent achievement. Childress was awarded the Lifetime Certified Local Government Purchasing Officer Award through the Carolinas Association of Government Purchasing.

Commissioner Chris Elliott recalled how Childress mentored him and shared his knowledge with others when they worked together. He also pointed out how he appreciates Childress’ diligence when it comes to his line of work.

“You look at every line item and make sure the county’s getting what it needs. I appreciate your service. This is something to be proud of.”

During the public comments section of the meeting, the commissioners heard from the superintendents from the three local school systems. Dr. Emily Lipe (Davidson County Schools), Cate Gentry (Thomasville City Schools) and Dr. Anitra Wells (Lexington City Schools) thanked the commissioners for their support and additional funding. Gentry asked the board to consider a request she has made previously to increase the per pupil allotment to match the state average.

  • The public hearing for the Fire & Life Safety Ordinance update was continued until Tuseday, June 8 at 6 p.m.
