From Nine to Five to Twenty Four Seven Freedom: The Inspiring Journey of Lexington’s Own “Big Rich”

In the heart of Lexington, North Carolina, a man named Richard De’laney Tysinger forged a path less traveled, one that led him from the predictable rhythm of a 9-to-5 job to the round-the-clock demands of entrepreneurship. For 13 years, his career as a bail bondsman has been a 24-hour commitment, but as Tysinger himself puts it, “It’s my 24 hours.” This profound shift was born from a pivotal moment in his own youth and a chance encounter that ignited a new purpose.

Tysinger vividly recalls a time when he faced the inside of a jail cell himself, held for a failure to appear in court. It was during this brief stint, a mere two hours, that he saw a familiar face—Rat Miller, who came to his aid. That moment, etched in his memory, became the catalyst for Tysinger’s future. Inspired by Miller’s example, he decided to become a bail bondsman.

After years of diligent work and invaluable experience gained under the supervision of Shell Bonds and through various contractual agreements, Tysinger’s dream took flight. He launched his own venture, Big Rich’s Bail Bonds, a service that has become a lifeline for many families in his community. As a bail bondsman, Tysinger plays a crucial role in the justice system, helping individuals secure their release from custody by putting his name and assets on the line with the courts. This service, for a fee, allows defendants to return home to their families while awaiting their court dates. However, Tysinger is quick to point out that the job isn't always about helping people get out of jail. There's also the challenging reality of tracking down those who skip court and go on the run.

Beyond the demands of his profession, Tysinger is a staunch believer in community. "I'm old school and I do believe it takes a village to raise a child," he explains, highlighting his deep commitment to giving back. This philosophy manifests in various ways, from his personal volunteering efforts to his active participation in numerous charitable events.

Tysinger’s dedication to community service is perhaps most evident through his extensive involvement in Masonic organizations. He proudly serves as the Head of the Acacia Masonic Lodge #66 and Potentate of AL Khattab Temple #201 Prince Hall Shriners, in addition to his membership in other Masonic bodies. These organizations are pillars of community support, hosting regular cookouts, providing meals for local school sports teams, donating essential school supplies, contributing food for the National Night Out event, and offering academic scholarships. His journey within Freemasonry has been one of steady advancement; he was granted the prestigious title of Master Mason in 2013 and, in 2022, received the highly esteemed 33rd Degree in Masonry, the highest honorary degree in the fraternity.

Despite his significant accomplishments and leadership roles, Tysinger remains grounded. He describes himself as "just a regular ole country boy that enjoys the outdoors," someone who can seamlessly transition from everyday life to deep, meaningful conversations about life, space, spirituality, and even the supernatural. He even nurtures a unique and somewhat peculiar hobby: beekeeping.

Richard Tysinger’s life is a testament to the power of personal experience and the profound impact one individual can have on their community. His journey from a brief encounter with the legal system to becoming a trusted bail bondsman and a dedicated community leader is truly inspiring. He encapsulates his philosophy with one of his favorite quotes, a simple yet powerful mantra: "WELL DONE IS BETTER THAN WELL SAID." This embodies the essence of Richard De’laney Tysinger: a man of action, commitment, and unwavering dedication to both his profession and the people of Lexington.
