Friday: Community Invited to Place Flags at Memorials Ahead of Memorial Day
Community Invited to Place Flags at Veterans’ Memorials Ahead of Memorial Day
LEXINGTON, N.C. — As Memorial Day approaches, Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery is inviting community members to come together Friday morning to help honor local veterans through a simple but meaningful tradition.
Volunteers are encouraged to gather at 8 a.m. at the cemetery’s flagpole to help place American flags at the memorials of veterans buried at Holly Hill.
Organizers said the event is intended to serve as a moment of gratitude, remembrance, and reflection for the men and women who served the country.
“This simple act of placing a flag is one small way we can show gratitude, remembrance, and respect for those who gave so much,” the cemetery shared in a public invitation posted to social media.
Families, children, friends, church groups, and community members are all welcome to participate. Organizers said they hope the event will help bring the community together while preparing for Memorial Day weekend.
The event is open to the public and no registration is required. Participants are encouraged to arrive a few minutes early Friday morning at the Holly Hill flagpole.
Memorial Day is observed nationally as a time to honor military members who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
