Animal Shelter closes due to virus outbreak
Out of an abundance of caution, the Davidson County Animal Shelter is closed for intakes until further notice due to a limited number of parvovirus and panleukopenia virus cases.
We have consulted with our veterinarian and have put additional protocols into place that include continuous evaluation of animals housed in the shelter, deep cleaning, disinfecting, and quarantining as deemed necessary. During this time, we encourage the public that find strays to use social media or reach out to neighbors to find the pet’s owner as intakes are not being accepted.
Other important information:
* Adoptions may still occur for pets that are fully vaccinated (2 immunizations) against parvovirus and/or panleukopenia.
* Reclaims are permitted for stray holds (boosters will be administered against parvovirus and/or panleukopenia).
* This is a fluid situation and more information will be made available as soon as practical
There has been an increasing number of parvovirus and panleukopenia cases in the community and we advise owners to vaccinate their pets to prevent contagion or spread.
