Hospice of Davidson County Announces Evolves to New Name: Alderwood of Davidson County
New Name Reflects Expanded Array of Services, Including Developing Palliative Care and Enhanced Grief Support Programs to Meet Community Needs.
LEXINGTON, NC — Celebrating more than four decades of trusted, local service, Hospice of Davidson County announced today that it is officially expanding its care model and transitioning to a new name: Alderwood of Davidson County.
For over 40 years, we have provided our community with exceptional care. As the needs around us have grown, we continue to evolve; expanding our services, elevating our expertise, and ensuring we remain a steadfast and trusted presence wherever serious illness calls for us. While hospice care remains a vital, foundational part of the organization's mission, Alderwood will now offer a more comprehensive, specialized array of services—including a palliative care service for serious illness and enhanced community grief support and counseling programs.
"Our organization has always been defined by our legacy of care and our unwavering commitment to this community," said Laura Owen, CEO of Alderwood of Davidson County. "Over the years, we have listened closely to our families, healthcare partners, and community members regarding their evolving needs. We recognized that a serious illness diagnosis may require a dedicated layer of relief and support, regardless of where a patient is in their care plan. By expanding our services to fulfill those needs, we ensure that families can access the right level of comfort, guidance, and clinical excellence exactly where they are on their journey."
The name Alderwood was selected for its rich local symbolism. Inspired by the resilience and strength of the local alder tree—which naturally stabilizes shorelines and restores the land around it—the new brand reflects an enduring foundation of support.
Critically, leadership emphasizes that the transition is an expansion of services, not an organizational buyout. Alderwood of Davidson County remains a completely independent, private nonprofit entity. The organization's internal leadership, staff, and core values remain entirely unchanged, ensuring the same trusted faces will continue to deliver deeply present care.
"We aren't changing who we are; we are building on our experience," added Aaron Holt, Chief Administrative Officer. "Remaining independent gives us the freedom and flexibility to deliver the highest standard of care to families. This new chapter ensures that we are perfectly equipped to provide a steady foundation of care for serious illness wherever our patients call home–truly being with them for life."
The rollout of the new visual identity, website, and signage will take place over the coming weeks. Local community members and families seeking to learn more about Alderwood’s expanded services or upcoming grief support series are invited to visit www.AlderwoodHealth.org or call 336.475.5444.
