Thomasville fire considered arson

Thomasville fire considered arson

The Thomasville Fire Department and the Thomasville Police Department responded to a fire at an abandoned property containing numerous buildings before sunrise on the morning of February 28, 2024.

The fire is currently being investigated as arson.

Several buildings located at 15 Hobbs Avenue were damaged as a result of the fire and the garage was burned beyond repair.

The abandoned property has sat in need of repair for months and most of the structures were fully ablaze when first responders arrived.

Neighbors in the surrounding area have complained about the unsafe conditions caused by the deserted property.

There have also been separate incidents which happened on the property within the last month where the police have responded including vandalism, assault, property damage, breaking and entering and now a second case of arson.

The morning of the fire, Joseph Peace Jr. was charged with misdemeanor breaking and entering after being found in one of the buildings during the time of the fire. Peace signed a written promise to appear in the Davidson County Courts at a later date.

This investigation remains ongoing and no one was injured.
