Uptick in Car Theft: Thomasville Police Issue Holiday Safety Reminder Amid Rise in Vehicle Break-Ins

With the holiday season approaching, the Thomasville Police Department is urging residents to take extra precautions following an increase in vehicle break-ins reported across the city.

According to the department, “Many of these incidents involve unlocked vehicles or valuables left in plain sight.” Officials say the recent uptick has prompted an emphasis on preventive measures and community awareness.

In a statement, the department reaffirmed its crime-prevention strategy:
“The Thomasville Police Department is committed to proactive policing and community partnership. Our policy emphasizes crime prevention through visibility, education, and collaboration with our residents.”

As part of that approach, officers are reminding residents of the department’s core safety message: “Lock It, Hide It, Take It!”

The guidance includes three key steps:

  • “Lock your vehicle every time, even at home.”

  • “Hide items such as bags, wallets, firearms, electronics, and gifts.”

  • “Take your keys and remove anything that could tempt a thief.”

Police also encouraged residents to report any unusual activity.
“If you see suspicious activity—no matter how small—please report it immediately to our non-emergency line at 336-475-4260 or dial 911 in an emergency.”

Officials thanked community members who have already been proactive in sharing information related to suspicious behavior, stating:
“A huge thank-you to the many vigilant community members who continue to look out for their neighbors and report suspicious behavior. Your awareness makes a real difference!”

The department says its goal is to reduce seasonal crime through cooperation between officers and residents during one of the busiest times of the year.
