The 2026 Primary Election on March 3 in Davidson County is shaping up to have several contested races, including the county commissioners, Davidson County Sheriff, NC Senate and NC House representatives.
JacQuez Johnson announced today that he has filed to run for the North Carolina House of Representatives to represent District 80, citing growing concern over state-level dysfunction and the real-world consequences it is having on families, educators, and public servants across the district.
Davidson Local reported that Mizell previously planned to step away from public office, he said changes at work and continued family discussions have made it possible for him to continue serving.
Candidate filing remains open through December 19, 2025, at 12:00 noon.

Commissioner Chris Elliott has announced that he will not seek re-election at the end of his current term.
Davidson and Davie County District Attorney Garry Frank announced this week that he will not be seeking re-election in 2026. Frank, who was first elected as district attorney in 1998, said he made this difficult decision for a variety of factors, including the state’s transition to a digital court system and the current political climate in the country.
