Sunday voting raises questions: Davidson County residents encouraged to comment by Friday

Davidson County residents are included in a few communities invited to weigh in on election protocol. Debates surrounding dates, hours and locations for early voting typically fall along party lines. While many party leaders encourage voting, when and where that happens is often left for scrutiny by governing bodies. In the case of the November 8, 2022 election parties, local leaders are promoting the public comment period due to close on 5 p.m. Friday, September 9 for Davidson County voters.

Opinion: Support a Sunday voting option, at the local BOE this Monday

Pamela Kelly writes “Souls to the Polls! Anyone growing up in North Carolina knows that term. I was not raised here and although I understood on the surface what Souls to the Polls was, I didn’t really understand how important it was to the Black Community. My understanding is the congregations of Black Churches would gather in a group after services and go together in church vans to vote on Sunday. To an outsider this seemed convenient and a powerful community exercise to get out the vote. My outsider’s view might be accurate in part but is far from the whole story.”

Op-Ed: No Red Wave

Our nation, state, and county really do hang in the balance this fall. When the Chair of Davidson County GOP says, “Our actions, or inactions, will determine the course our society takes for the foreseeable future.” I agree wholeheartedly! But from that point on we diverge.
