El Departamento de Salud del Condado de Davidson fue notificado el 6 de noviembre de 2023 de un gato doméstico no vacunado que había sido llevado al Refugio de Animales del Condado de Davidson para observación debido a que mostraba un comportamiento errático. Se tomó la difícil pero necesaria decisión de sacrificar al animal y someterlo a pruebas para detectar el virus de la rabia. El personal del Departamento de Salud recibió la notificación el 7 de noviembre de 2023 de que el animal había sido confirmado positivo para la rabia.
