Man injured after allegedly "jumping from a bridge," West Fifth Ave. Lexington

A man was injured on Monday evening after jumping from a bridge on West Fifth Avenue in Lexington, according to police.  

At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Monday, an officer with the Lexington Police Department was on patrol in the area of West Fifth Avenue and Southbound Avenue and observed a white male standing on the bridge overlooking the railroad tracks. The officer reported that the male jumped from the bridge railing landing on the tracks below.

The Lexington Police Department, Lexington Fire Department and Davidson County EMS responded to the area and administered first aid to the man. The victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist - Lexington Medical Center. The severity of his injuries was not disclosed.

The incident is being investigated as an attempted suicide, according to City of Lexington officials.
