Elderly man arrested in connection with double homicide
A 78-year-old man has been arrested and charged with double homicide connected to an incident on Friday in northern Davidson County.
Stephen Curtis Hicks was charged with two counts of first-degree murder after officers with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office conducted a welfare check at 360 Raye Drive in Winston-Salem (Davidson County) and found two dead bodies.
At approximately 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 17, officers responded to the residence after receiving a report from a family member who reported they had received a text from Hick stating he had harmed members of his family.
Upon arrival, deputies reported they received no response at the door, so they entered the residence to ensure the safety of the occupants. Inside the home, deputies discovered the deceased bodies of June Hicks, 76, and Stephen Eric Hicks, 45.
They also found Stephen Hicks who had minor self-inflicted injuries. Law enforcement did not disclose the cause of death for the victims.
Hicks was taken into custody without incident and was charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He is currently being held at the Davidson County Detention Center. His initial court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 20 in Lexington District Court.
