On Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Davidson County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies responded to a residence in the Silver Valley Community, on Jeanette Lane, Thomasville, North Carolina, in reference to a death investigation.

The bicyclist is identified as Marty Dean Smith, age 53, from Lexington N.C. He remains hospitalized at Atrium Baptist hospital with serious injuries.
