The Davidson County Health Department has confirmed a rabies-positive feral cat in the Southmont community off Riverview Rd. It’s the county’s third confirmed case in 2025. The cat, seen in the area for several weeks and removed by Animal Control on Sept. 21, tested positive at the State Lab. Individuals with potential exposure have been notified and referred for post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP).
The Lexington Fire Department will be conducting live fire training exercises on an acquired structure at 1238 Old Hargrave Road on September 27, 28, and 30 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The purpose of the campaign is to educate residents about the traffic safety concerns discussed during the recent community forum held at Denton Wesleyan Church, and to provide user-friendly websites with valuable links for multi-modal traffic education.
LPD is currently in search of Andrew Brackman who is wanted for assault on a law enforcement officer. Brackman is on foot in the south end of Lexington on the stretch of Cotton Grove Rd/NC Highway 8 from Plaza Parkway to Highway 47. This has caused for an increased police presence in the south end of the city.
A Day of Remembrance and Resilience
June 7th marks National Gun Violence Awareness Day, and Lexington will honor the occasion with a vigil commemorating lives lost to gun violence, alongside resources promoting community safety. JLD Community Solutions has been a leader in this movement, receiving proclamations from Mayor Jason Hayes and City Councilman Jim Myers in recognition of their efforts. This year marks the 3rd annual gun violence awareness event for JLD Community Solutions.

In North Carolina, between 1999 and 2017, there were 225 heat-related deaths, with 25 occurring in the workplace. The highest rates of occupational heat-related deaths were observed among males, Hispanic workers, and individuals aged 55–64
Three people have been arrested and charged with felony animal abuse.
Representatives from the City of Lexington said the victim, identified as Andrew Wynn, was on the overpass on Cotton Grove Road prior to the collision with the truck on the highway. Law enforcement believe it was an “intentional act” on part of the victim and the driver of the vehicle was charged with any violations.

An Update on the PowerSchool Cybersecurity Incident Dear families and educators — As we previously communicated, PowerSchool, a cloud-based software vendor used by Davidson County Schools, recently experienced a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to certain information in the PowerSchool Student Information System (SIS).
The Davidson County Sheriff's Office and the family of a #missingteenager is asking for the public's help locating a 16-year-old. Kidan Coleman was last seen Jan. 8th 2025 in Lexington.

A cold weather advisory is in effect for Davidson County and surrounding areas through Wednesday, with overnight lows expected to be near zero degrees.
As part of the response to the cold snap, city crews have already completed checks on all bridges with water utilities connected to them. Additionally, fire crews are surveying vacant buildings to identify any potential leaking water lines that may have been impacted by the freezing conditions. Police officers are patrolling streets to help canvas the area.

Last night, the Holly Grove and Silver Valley Fire Departments faced an intense and urgent situation as they rushed to tackle a structure fire at 388 Monroe Drive in Thomasville.
