Southwest Elementary recognized for exceptional support of military students and families

The Purple Star Award program was established in the 2019-20 school year to recognize schools that provide exceptional support to military students and families. This year, 453 schools across North Carolina, including Southwest Elementary, received the award. Schools earning the Purple Star Award completed several activities, including the designation of a staff member as a point of contact for military families and the implementation of a transition program for military-connected students.

Community organizations unite for safety block party

A Day of Remembrance and Resilience
June 7th marks National Gun Violence Awareness Day, and Lexington will honor the occasion with a vigil commemorating lives lost to gun violence, alongside resources promoting community safety. JLD Community Solutions has been a leader in this movement, receiving proclamations from Mayor Jason Hayes and City Councilman Jim Myers in recognition of their efforts. This year marks the 3rd annual gun violence awareness event for JLD Community Solutions.
